Just call me Peggy Sue

You know that poem that starts "Dance like no one is watching"? Forget the rest of it, and just do that part, a lot.

A week behind (at least)

Well, the mono has done it's work. I am now approximately a week behind in my school-work. That's just great, considering I have 3 tests and a project due this week. So I've got quite a lot of junk to do to catch up in time for the exams. This stinks. For the first time in my life, I actually considered dropping a class because it was too hard. I didn't, so let's hope I get throught it alright.
The sickness part of the mono is wearing off, I'm pretty sure. My throat hurt most of the week, but that also may have had to do with yelling for 3 hours 3 nights of the week at my ballet girls (well, more like "projecting," but it feels like yelling). I took an entire day off on Wednesday because I totally crashed at rehearsal Tuesday night. I hadn't danced (or really stood up for more than a half hour) since Saturday, but I was so antsy that I decided I should try and dance in rehearsal. Well, within about 45 minutes I had a raging headache and couldn't really breathe, so I stopped. It's really hard to learn choreography while laying sprawled out on the floor and not moving. Oh well. After my day of rest on Wed I felt much better. I danced in rehearsal on Thrusday and felt really good. Hopefully after my week off I'll be good for my dance classes this week (I gotta dance again, I'm getting both really out of shape and really fidgety from not moving around enough). Thankfully, I didn't get all super swollen like Danielle Pauk did in high school. Nor was I forced to spend 2 straight weeks crawling between my bed and the bathroom like a lot of other people who I've heard about lately. And I'm not being pulled out of school, which sadly is often something that happens to people who get this real bad. So I'm looking on the bright side, because I had a very mild case. Thank God for shrinking my spleen, I can slouch again.
Well, that was pretty much my week. Thanks to everyone who has been so nice and helpful with me being sick. If only you could take my exams for me....

Sleeping Through the Excitement

The last 2 weeks have been nuts. 4 hours of rehearsal a night, class all day, someone subbing for all of my teaching. I pretty much have yet to do homework, and am more than totally lost in at least 2 of my classes already. This is going well. Then to top it all off, I find out I have mono. I had this wierd headache for 2 days that would not get better no matter what I did (medicine made it worse, and sleep didn't do anything). So I went to the health clinic to see if they knew what it was, they ran some tests, and I've got mono. Do you know what they do for mono? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. They tell you to sleep and drink lots of fluids, and take some ibuprofin if you want to. That's it. Oh, and you could have gotten it up to 6 weeks ago and might be contagious for the next 18 months. Wow, what a fun sickness. I haven't had time to sleep yet, with InSync, and no matter how much water I drink or how many pills I take my spleen is still 3 times its normal size. Eating is no fun, because there's just no room in my abdominal cavity for anything else. And everyone keeps treating me like a cripple or an invalid, even though I'm still fully in control of my capabilities. I'm just a little tired and my tummy hurts a little. Stupid, stupid mono.
So that's the fun in my life, hope this update finds you well. If you need me in the next couple of weeks, I'm not sure you'll get me, as I'll probably be asleep.

Back At School

Well, I'm back in good old Holland, MI. It's good to be back at the house, though it's undergoing quite a conformational change. Kath, Jenn, and I are all attempting to fit in a room that had only 2 girls in it last year. So the first challenge is getting all the furniture to fit well and still be able to use the light switch and see out the window. Then, we have to get all of our stuff to fit. Slight problem there: the girls didn't so much move out of the room yet.... So we carefully carried all of their things downstairs, and have been trying since yesterday to find places for our clothes. All my life, the only stuff under my bed was crap and junk that I didn't want my mother to see, but now I've got about half my waredrobe under there. We eventually decided to put 2 of the 3 desks out in the living room, which made the light switch and window accessible, and also left some room for a "sitting area" (the chair didn't fit in the LR any more). So I think it'll all work, as long as Jennica's stuff fits around Kath's and mine, and the girls don't get super mad at us for moving their stuff. It's interesting, but kinda fun up here now :)

InSync is in full swing again, too. We are getting the pieces of our costumes together, which is fun. All the pieces are done, which is good. The only problem is that they swung another week of full-night rehearsals on us. So now I have to find people to sub for my ballet classes for another week. That means that 3 weeks in a row I'm not teaching. Guess those new $250 tap shoes are coming out of my savings. Not to mention the fact that finding people to teach for me that much is quite a daunting task. Yuck. I love to do lots of things, and it's only when they butt up against each other that problems come. This time, they are really ramming together (fun).

Goals for today:
get my stuff out of the kitchen (there are a couple things that don't quite fit in the room yet)
don't get angry at rehearsals about having more rehearsals
give Jennica a gigantic hug (it's been 4 months since I could)

Another Break Update

Well, a couple more days of break have passed, most of them un-exciting. But a few things have gone down:

New Years ~ spent it watching the Return of the King (all 5 hours of it), watched the ball drop at 11 as always, actually stayed up long enough to see Conan's Midwestern Countdown (I personally liked the dude with the map), babysat the kiddo (cute, cute, cute)

Michael ~ came to visit, went to all 3 Madison locations of Noodles (#1 closed for the holiday, #2 closed for remodelling, #3 open finally), also went to Chipotle and Glass Nickel Pizza (yummy), played Cranium Hoopla (wicked hard) and Scrabble (I actually won once)

Jennica ~ got to talk to my long-absent friend, confused her by refering to Mike as Michael, she seems to be doing fine, very much looking forward to seeing her later this week

Football ~ for really the first time all season I watched some college football (my sports watching has declined drastically in the last semester), enjoyed myself thoroughly, learned what a 3rd down conversion was

Some other stuff has happened, I saw a couple of movies and watched some really geeky shows on the History and National Geographic channels. My life is much more exiciting to me living it than it sounds here, I apologize. For something more intellectually stimulating, please see the next entry. But for now, I'm off to bed.
